Punctuality remains one of the most important factors for air travellers worldwide, and a new industry report has highlighted which airlines and airports perform best when it comes to staying on schedule. The 2025 On-Time Performance Review by aviation analytics firm Cirium has ranked the world’s most punctual carriers and airports, with an Indian airline earning a place among the region’s top performers.
Cirium defines an on-time arrival as a flight reaching the gate within 15 minutes of its scheduled arrival, while an on-time departure means leaving the gate within 15 minutes of the planned departure time. These benchmarks form the basis of its annual rankings.

World’s most punctual airlines
The 2025 report recognised several global and regional leaders in punctuality. Qatar Airways was named the overall Platinum Winner after achieving an 84.42% on-time arrival rate across nearly 200,000 flights, improving on its performance last year.
Aeromexico retained its position as the world’s most punctual global airline for the second year running, delivering a 90.02% punctuality rate across close to 189,000 flights. Philippine Airlines topped the Asia-Pacific regional rankings with 83.12% on-time performance, while Delta Air Lines led North America with 80.9% punctuality across more than 1.8 million flights.
In Europe, Iberia Express claimed the top spot for the third consecutive year with an 88.94% on-time rate. Copa Airlines led Latin America at 90.75%, and FlySafair emerged as the most punctual carrier in the Middle East and Africa category with 91.06%. Virgin Atlantic was named the most improved airline of the year after significantly boosting its punctuality compared to 2023.
IndiGo among Asia-Pacific’s most punctual
In the Asia-Pacific regional top 10 list, IndiGo secured sixth place, making it the only Indian airline to feature. According to the report, IndiGo achieved a 78.12% on-time arrival rate across more than 802,000 flights in 2025.
The ranking comes despite operational challenges late in the year, when changes to flight crew duty regulations led to widespread delays and cancellations in December. Cirium noted that IndiGo had maintained strong punctuality for most of the year, recording over 80% on-time performance between June and October before disruptions affected its year-end results.
Most punctual airports worldwide
The report also highlighted airports that excelled in departure punctuality. Istanbul Airport received Cirium’s Airport Platinum Award after a landmark year that included the launch of Europe’s first triple independent parallel runway operations and a record 81 departures in a single hour.
In category rankings, Santiago’s Arturo Merino BenÃtez International Airport topped the large airport segment with an 87.04% on-time departure rate. Panama’s Tocumen International Airport led the medium airport category with 93.34% punctuality, while Ecuador’s Guayaquil José JoaquÃn de Olmedo International Airport claimed the small airport title for the second year in a row with 91.47%.
The findings underline how airlines and airports worldwide are navigating rising demand and operational pressures, while still striving to keep passengers moving on time.
